If you read the last issue of reConnection
(read it here: http://mroane.zenfolio.com/), you've see this Great Blue Heron and this fish before. Several things stand out to me about this event.
• That a bird this big wasn't spotted in time by the catfish.
• That the bird could catch a fish this big while on-the-fly.
• That the bird could hold a fish this heavy in it's beak.
• That the bird could get airborne again with a fish this big.
• That the bird was able to carry the weight of the fish a couple hundred yards without dropping it.
• And finally, that the bird could eat a fish that big without killing itself.
Four times that day, I saw different GBH's drop down on fish from flight. Three were successful. Yet I had never seen it before that day. Must have been something in the air.
