The Eagle's Domain

I was so excited the morning I took this photo. Eagles, in recent years, have become relatively common to see, their population has expanded so much.  But, several years ago, when I took this photo, it was only the second or third time I had seen an eagle on the Patuxent. I was using a 300mm telephoto but it still wasn't a long enough lens to capture a close-up, so I had to settle for what I call an "environmental" photo - a picture that shows a tiny bird and a lot of environment.

In this case, I am glad I had to settle for an environmental shot. The eagle flying through the heavy fog is somehow infused with more majesty and you get a sense of how it is master of it's domain.
