A Swan that Swims So Bonnie O

I looked down river one morning and saw a swan - or at least for quite a while I thought it must be a swan. I had never seen one in this are of the river before. I had seen some in a creek off the Patuxent close to the mouth of the river where a pair returned every year, but never here. As I watched, it slowly dawned on me that I wasn't looking at a swan. It was a great blue heron. The thing was, it seemed very comfortable just swimming around and made no attempt to fly. In fact, it eventually swam in along the shore and quite a distance to the left out of the picture before I finally lost it in the shadows. These birds don't cease to amaze!
