The Chickadee and the Worm

While I was waiting for something else to happen today, a Chickadee flew into the tree near me looking for bugs to eat. They will often grab and hang onto the very farthest leaves where they find bugs under the leaves in the immediate vicinity.

This little guy came up with a nice juicy green worm, but he seemed to have some trouble trying to eat it.

He would try in one spot, but that wouldn't work so then he would try another branch.

Finally, he tried sticking it under his foot...

And stretching that puppy as far as he could in an effort to get it to snap in half. I laughed out loud when I saw it. Look at how the worm is a normal girth to the right of it's foot but all stretched out and only half as thick on the other side!

That didn't work either and, looking a little vexed, he picked it up and took off for parts unknown. Sometimes the animal comedies are as funny as anything you could see on TV. But, then again, maybe you had to be there...
