Rim Lighting

The photo below was taken in a room with extremely strong backlighting coming in through a bay window.  I could have activated the built-in flash unit on the camera, but chose instead to go in the other direction, significantly underexposing.  I also shot with the widest aperature to insure the background would be blurred.  This had the effect of  recording only the highlights on the edge of the child's profile.  File it away in your bag of tricks.
